The Brief

Designing the anti-casino investing experience.

Between 2020 and 2026, over 10 crore Indians opened demat accounts. Most did so on trading apps designed around red and green blinking tickers, gamified leaderboards, and instant derivatives prompts. The result was predictable: millions entering the market looking for quick profits and exiting after painful losses.

We asked: What if an investing app was designed from the ground up for calm, patient compounding? Where starting requires just ₹100, where mutual funds take precedence over risky intraday bets, and where volatility is framed as seasonal weather rather than personal failure.

Market Context

Investing grew. The software remained built for day-traders.

Unique Demat Accounts

Median investor age is ~33. Over 70% of new signups originate outside the top-8 metropolitan cities.

₹32,000 Cr

Monthly SIP Inflow

Systematic Investment Plans are India's favorite wealth engine, yet apps treat them like recurring utility bills.

~91%

F&O Traders Lost Money

SEBI studies showed net average losses of ₹1.2 lakh per active retail derivatives trader in FY25.

Core User Truth

“First-time investors don't quit because of losses. They quit because losses arrive without context.”

“I put in ₹5,000 my first month. The next week the app showed minus ₹340 in bright neon red with an alarm bell. I panicked, withdrew everything, and told my family stock markets are just gambling.”

Brand Architecture

Wealth is grown, not gambled.

The Seed Symbol

An organic seed kernel splitting open on an isometric grid. One leaf forms the foundational ground; the second leaf shoots upward to form a rising chart line. Growth and finance unified in a single mark.

Natural Palette & Instrument Serif

Forest (#0F3D2E) ground, vibrant Sprout (#4ADE80) accent, soothing Paper (#FBF9F4), and subdued Coral (#E05A47). Numbers are set in Instrument Serif to evoke traditional passbooks, paired with clean Inter for UI precision.

App Signature #1

The Living Garden: Portfolios as an illustrated ecosystem.

In Seedvest, holdings are never just rows in an Excel sheet. Each holding is rendered as a distinct plant species: an Index Fund is a sturdy Banyan Oak, bluechips are Cypresses, midcaps are Sunflowers, and cash liquid funds are Bamboo groves.

When the market dips, plants droop slightly and sky clouds form. On watering days, animated rain droplets nourish each plant as SIP instalments execute.

App Signature #2

The SIP Projection Tree: Compounding visualized.

Calculators usually present compounding as dry compound interest formulas. Seedvest connects an interactive slider directly to an SVG branch projection. As users drag from ₹100 to ₹5,000, trunk thickness, leaf count, and canopy spread expand synchronously in real time.

12% CAGR Model · Assumed Returns
₹1,16,170

₹500 / month for 10 years. Total invested: ₹60,000 · Wealth created: ₹56,170. Always transparently labelled illustrative.

Signatures #3 & #4

The Calm Scrub & The Sprout Pop.

Calm Chart Scrub

Dragging a finger across the 1D/1W/1Y chart delivers smooth haptic ticks while the Instrument Serif price morphs calmly without jarring layout shifts or panic color flashes.

The Sprout Pop

When an investor plants their very first seed, an organic sprout gently pops from the digital soil. No casino confetti or gambling horns—just a warm certificate celebrating the start of their journey.

Safety & Compliance

The Breather: Code that stops panic selling.

When an investor attempts to sell a stock or mutual fund during a sudden market dip (>5% drop), Seedvest intervenes with The Breather.

10-Second Breather

Markets have rainy days. Your goals are long-term.

Over 78% of intraday panic sellers regret their exit within 48 hours. Take a breath before you confirm.

Users can still proceed after the timer expires, but over 60% choose “Keep my shares”.

Architecture & Ops

One brand, two speeds: Terminal and Admin.

Canopy Workstation

For experienced investors, Canopy delivers a dark-mode, multi-pane trading terminal with technical depth, custom watchlists, and a keyboard-first order window (B → 10 → Ctrl+Enter).
